Today is the 18th Anniversary of my brother's cancer surgery. It was a fourteen hour surgery which left him not only fighting to survive, but unexpectedly blind. It also transformed him in ways no one could ever have imaged--joyful and healed. Though he was given a six week prognosis, he lived for nearly four years. Throughout those years he would often say, "Don't pray for my blindness to go away, because I see God more clearly through the darkness than I ever did in the light."
While his body remained sick, his soul was healed. He found peace like he hadn't experienced in the previous thirty years of his life. WE found faith in the unfathomable and laughter thru the agony. We lived one day at a time, whether we liked it or not.
My brother Jeff's greatest dream was that he wouldn't be forgotten, and that the lessons he learned could have a positive impact on the world. I am honored to finally make his dream a reality. Blind Awakening will be available in the next three weeks. It has been a true labor of love for the past fourteen years.
BLIND AWAKENING
All of us learn to face death in one way or another, but only a rare few of us learn to fully embrace living once we realize the time we have on this earth is limited.
It was two weeks after his surgery, while still in the critical care unit, that the doctors discovered Jeff suffered a stroke on his optic nerve during surgery and would be left in darkness forever--completely blind.
Blind Awakening is the true story about how Jeff Longley went into surgery as a bitter, anxious, negative person and came out seeing as he’d never seen before. Humor, honesty and courage are the key elements to his extraordinary journey. But it was his sister's dedication and their ever-growing faith in Jesus that allowed them both to see the Light through the darkness.
This book will remind each of us that life is not measured by the days we are alive, but rather by the days we truly live.
